HSBC appoints customer service manager as head of First Direct

HSBC has appointed an executive who has worked in finance for just two years to run its online banking arm First Direct. Mr Gordon joined HSBC in January 2015 as head of the contact centres that handle customer queries. "First Direct is a primarily customer-service business and Joe has a great deal of experience in running successful customer-focused environments," First Direct said. Francesca McDonagh, head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management, UK & Europe at HSBC, described Mr Gordon as a "Talented leader with a proven record of delivering excellent customer service". First Direct, which has no branches, is the number one bank in the UK for "Customer satisfaction and recommendation", according to research from the TNS Customer Recommendation Index.
