UK braced for spate of strikes
British Airways has promised to ensure all passengers due to travel during a two-day strike next week will be able to complete their journeys, as the UK prepared for a week of industrial action across several forms of transport. The Aslef drivers' strike is expected to halt all trains on Southern, which normally carries 300,000 passengers daily, and reduce frequencies on Gatwick Express, the London to Gatwick airport shuttle. On London Underground, management expects the strike to close most stations in Zone 1, in central London. Unions have insisted that the rash of strikes has not been co-ordinated. Transport for London said it was still in talks on Friday about possibly averting the London Underground strike, which is over station staffing levels.
