Thomas Cook on a sticky wicket after pay protests

England's Cook made 4,844 runs as captain - more than any predecessor - but lost more matches than any other, and was often thought to wait too long before declaring an innings closed. Thomas Cook's Mr Fankhauser made £703,800 in base salary last year - and sought the potential for 225 per cent more - but has just presided over operating losses of £49m and warned on the outlook for the rest of the year. Thomas Cook's Mr Fankhauser is looking forward to his summer season - bookings are up 9 per cent, he says - despite struggling to match up to rival Tui. He has seen Thomas Cook shares underperform Tui's since the German group floated in 2014, beaten on balance sheet strength and dividend policy.
