Vodafone in move to recruit career-break women

Vodafone is launching what it says is the world's largest programme to recruit women who have taken a career break. A separate survey of women in five countries, by GfK, another consultancy, showed that eight out of 10 believed more support was needed for women who wanted to return to work. Vodafone's programme - which is being launched ahead of International Women's Day on March 8 - is not restricted to former Vodafone staff and is open to men as well as women. Vodafone believes the programme will help it meet its target of increasing the proportion of women in its 7,500 managerial roles from 27 per cent to 30 per cent by 2020. Lisa Unwin, founder of She's Back, an advisory group that helps women return to work, says traditional recruitment channels tend to be closed to women with a gap in their career profile.
