JD Sports profits propelled by sportswear trend
The fashion for sports clothing away from the gym fuelled an 81 per cent jump in pre-tax profits at high street retailer JD Sports last year. JD Sports on Tuesday said pre-tax profits hit £238m in the year to January 28. JD Sports is considered to be more upmarket than its sportswear rival Sports Direct. Looking ahead, the group pointed to "Inflationary pressures arising from Brexit", but Mr Cowgill said JD Sports would increase prices where products had improved in some way, but not on staples such as underwear and socks. JD Sports said it would not be releasing the Deloitte report because of "Commercial sensitivities".
