Asos warehouse in Germany hit by fire

A fire at an Asos warehouse in Germany damaged clothes worth up to £6.3m on Tuesday. The UK online fashion retailer said the fire broke out at 3am at a warehouse near Berlin built to replace a smaller facility nearby. In 2014 arson was suspected in a fire at an Asos warehouse in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, damaging stock worth £20m. In 2005 an explosion and fire at an oil depot in Buncefield, Hertfordshire, damaged Asos's warehouse nearby. The chamber in Germany held 2m items costing £25m and Asos said a quarter of these "Could be compromised by fire and water damage". The "Timing was unhelpful" as the fire could delay the transfer of stock from the old to the new warehouse.
