Marks and Spencer hires Halfords boss Jill McDonald
Marks and Spencer has hired the chief executive of cycling retailer Halfords, Jill McDonald, to take charge of clothing, home and beauty. The retailer has struggled with its clothing sales in recent years, while its food section has boomed. At the end of last year, like-for-like sales in its clothing and home division rose, but M&S said more work was needed. Ms McDonald's appointment reflects its determination to boost growth. Ms McDonald said: "I have long been an M&S customer and professional fan, so working with the brand was a career opportunity that I just couldn't turn down."
