Tesco call centre closure threatens 1,000 jobs

Up to 1,100 jobs are at risk at Tesco after the supermarket chain announced it was closing its call centre in Cardiff next year. Tesco said it was "Simplifying" its customer engagement with a single centre operating out of Dundee, and plans to close its Cardiff centre in February 2018. The call centre closure follows at least 3,700 job losses at Tesco and other major UK retailers in the first three months of this year, ahead of the introduction of a higher minimum wage for the over-25s in April. About 250 jobs will be created at the Dundee centre, while 1,100 will be at risk in Wales. The BRC said last year it reckoned one-third of all UK retail jobs would disappear by 2025.
