Unilever first half sales rise despite margarine slump
Consumer goods giant Unilever reported a rise in sales and profits in the first half of 2017 despite warning on "Challenging" market conditions. The company behind brands such as Marmite and Dove soap said its underlying sales rose 3 per cent in the first six months of the year, just below expectations of 3.1 per cent. Excluding spreads, first half sales were up 3.4 per cent. Healthy first half trading means Unilever is on track to post a 3-5 per cent rise in sales this year. Growth in Europe slipped 0.8 per cent in the first half.
