ABF, which does not think online sales are cost effective when you're selling £2 t-shirts, said sales at Primark for the 24 weeks to 3 March 2018 are expected to be 7 per cent ahead of the same period last year at constant currency - but this reflects increased retail selling space rather then more sales in existing stores. Like-for-like sales are actually expected to show a decline of 1 per cent for the 24 weeks. ABF says early trading of the new spring/summer range has been encouraging and Primark is performing well in the UK - with sales 8 per cent ahead of last year and a gain in clothing market share. Hammerson said full-year shopper footfall at its centres was up 0.4 per cent in the UK and 1.6 per cent in France - strongly outperforming national benchmarks.
