Opening Quote: Primark and Hammerson in sighting of “shoppers”
Too, does Primark owner Associated British Foods and shopping centre investor Hammerson. ABF, which does not think online sales are cost effective when you're selling £2 t-shirts, said sales at Primark for the 24 weeks to 3 March 2018 are expected to be 7 per cent ahead of the same period last year at constant currency - but this reflects increased retail selling space rather then more sales in existing stores. Like-for-like sales are actually expected to show a decline of 1 per cent for the 24 weeks. ABF says early trading of the new spring/summer range has been encouraging and Primark is performing well in the UK - with sales 8 per cent ahead of last year and a gain in clothing market share. Hammerson said full-year shopper footfall at its centres was up 0.4 per cent in the UK and 1.6 per cent in France - strongly outperforming national benchmarks.
