Tesco shows the way in how to recruit the best to higher office
Supermarket group Tesco appeared to have met all of the four succession criteria last year, when it bought Booker and put the wholesaler's highly rated boss Charles Wilson in charge of Tesco UK and Ireland, under chief executive Dave Lewis. So Tuesday's news concerning Mr Wilson's treatment for cancer, and decision to step down from Tesco's board, suggested the only flaw in any plan was the singular nature of his talent. As the analyst also noted: "Businesses the size of Tesco require substantial human capital and CEO Dave Lewis has materially rebuilt this capability through his tenure". Only Tesco's Mr Lewis seems to know how succession should work. Cambian's shareholders might push for a higher offer.
