Dyson moves into hair styling products

Dyson is attempting to expand its presence in the arena of personal care technology with the launch of a new hair styling product. Equipped with Dyson's own electric motors, which spin to create an area of high pressure at the top of the styling barrel, the machine styles hair without the need for extreme heat. "Harnessing the power of Dyson's digital motor we have engineered a truly unique styling tool preventing extreme heat damage when styling. I'm immensely proud of what our engineers have achieved.," said Sir James Dyson, chief engineer and founder of the eponymous company. Since its first vacuum cleaner went on sale a quarter of a century ago, Dyson has branched out into product categories including hand-dryers, air purifiers and lighting. The hair styling tool was six years in gestation, involving 642 prototypes and £24m in research and development costs.
