Cineworld: the big picture
Transformation remains a lengthy process for companies such as Cineworld. A record 308m people resisted the temptation to stay on the sofa with streaming services and visited Cineworld outlets last year. Cineworld is installing new concession counters and better screens to entice movie lovers. Cineworld has outperformed the broader market with shares up almost 7 per cent over the past year versus a decline for the FTSE 250. Lex, which gave Cineworld's takeover of Regal a bad review at the time, has to concede that box office success matters more than the esteem of professional critics.
