Vodafone drops PwC as auditor after Phones4U dispute
PwC was awarded the contract in 2014 when Vodafone put the contract up for tender after 26 years with Deloitte. A dispute linked to PwC's role as administrators for Phones4U triggered another change, with Vodafone putting the contract back out to tender in December. Vodafone is the second major telecoms group to have dropped PwC as its auditor in two years. PwC earned €26m in audit and non-audit fees from Vodafone in 2018, compared with the £13m earned by Deloitte in 2014. PwC has been criticised previously by Vodafone shareholders for its role as both auditor for the FTSE 100 group and administrator for Phones4U. Standard Life said in 2017 that PwC's appointment as auditor of Vodafone "Created a conflict, regardless of whether litigation against Vodafone is pursued".
