Garda World weighs bid for UK security group G4S
Canada's Garda World said it was considering making an offer for G4S, sending shares in the world's biggest publicly listed security company rallying more than 30 per cent. Garda World said it noted "Recent market speculation" and confirmed it was "In the preliminary stages of considering an approach to the board" of FTSE-listed G4S regarding a possible cash offer for all or part of the company. The Canadian group's interest in G4S was first reported by the Evening Standard. The announcement comes a month after G4S reported a 63 per cent drop in full-year pre-tax profits after it compensated thousands of employees for lost meal and rest breaks.
