Greggs further raises forecasts as vegan sausage roll charges sales

Greggs has raised its profit forecast for the year for a third time, as the success of its vegan sausage roll continued to power sales at the bakery chain. The group said on Tuesday that the "Exceptional level of like-for-like sales growth" that began in January has been sustained through the following months, and forecast that sales and profits will be "Materially higher" than previously thought. Much of this is down to the success of the vegan sausage roll, Greggs said, which launched in January to capitalise on the rising demand for meat-free products and quickly caught the public's attention, helped in part by a dismissive tweet from TV host Piers Morgan. Greggs said its traditional categories, which range from sandwiches to pastries, have also seen "Strong trading". Get alerts on Greggs PLC when a new story is published.
