Morrisons and Amazon to expand UK delivery partnership

Wm Morrison will ramp up a home delivery partnership with Amazon, expanding their online groceries platform to new cities throughout the UK, a month after it loosened an exclusive arrangement with Ocado. The UK's fourth-largest supermarket group said on Thursday that its Morrisons at Amazon same-day grocery delivery service, which runs on Amazon's Prime Now platform, would be rolled out to at least five more cities this year. "Morrisons conveniently located local supermarkets and Amazon's very popular website and customer offer are an ideal combination, offering ultrafast same day grocery home delivery for customers in and around cities across Britain," said David Potts, Morrisons chief executive. Following a fire at an Ocado warehouse earlier this year, Morrisons and Ocado struck a new deal, allowing the online delivery service to take back distribution space that had been used for Morrisons orders, while giving the supermarket group greater freedom to sell directly through other online platforms. Morrisons at Amazon will be rolled out to cities including Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Sheffield and Portsmouth during 2019.
