Bisto maker Premier Foods shakes up top management
Premier Foods has ended a nine-month search for a new chief executive, appointing an insider to lead the business amid a strategic review and pressure from activist investors. The maker of Mr Kipling cakes and Bisto gravy has concluded a period of significant leadership uncertainty by also appointing a new chairman and unveiling plans to hire new non-executive directors. Premier on Friday named Alex Whitehouse, its UK managing director, as chief executive, and said that the former boss of FTSE 250 industrial group Essentra, Colin Day, will join as chairman. Premier launched a strategic review aimed at "Increasing shareholder value" in February, but has subsequently released few further new details on its plans. "I am very much looking forward to joining Premier Foods at this key juncture as we look to deliver value for Premier Foods' shareholders," he said.
