Boots launches business review as sales slide
Boots' retail sales in the three months to November were down 2.9 per cent amid a "Very challenging" market, prompting the 170-year-old company to initiate a detailed review of its business. Last year it confirmed it would close about 200 mostly smaller stores that cannibalise sales at other Boots outlets. Mr Kehoe said these initiatives would be followed by "An end-to-end process review in Boots UK with the aim of transforming the way we operate". In the key beauty market, Boots is bringing in new brands such as Rihanna's Fenty and Urban Decay, and it has revamped beauty halls in its flagship stores. In Boots' more defensive pharmacy business, first-quarter sales rose 0.9 per cent.
