Amazon 'illegally retaliated' against climate activists
US labour officials have found that Amazon retaliated illegally when it fired two employees who had spoke out about the firm's environmental practices and warehouse safety. The National Labor Relations Board was investigating a complaint brought by Emily Cunningham and Maren Costa, who had helped organise the group Amazon Employees for Climate Justice. At the time, Amazon said the tech workers had violated company policies. Amazon has a reputation for reacting aggressively to labour activism and barring staff from speaking publicly about the company. The issue has gained new urgency amid tensions brought on by the pandemic, which brought a surge in business and profit to Amazon, while raising new health risks for warehouse workers.
