Redditch firm defends sale of human breast milk
A private company has defended selling breast milk for profit and said its products can help premature and ill babies. NeoKare Nutrition, based in Redditch, Worcestershire, screens milk from donor mums then pasteurises and sells it. The firm claims to be the only firm in Europe selling 100% breast milk products and said it helped premature babies and mothers with problems breastfeeding. Chair Debbie Barnett said she was concerned about safety, adding: "Are these women denying their own baby milk because they are making money from selling their own milk?". NeoKare said mothers volunteering to donate their milk to the firm could stop at any time.
