John Lewis: Staff wearing bodycams to tackle shoplifting rise
Retail staff are being trained to tackle violence from shoplifters after an increase in reports of the crime. The Welsh Retail Consortium said there was a more than a 30% rise in violence and abuse towards staff in Cardiff between 2021 and 2022. John Lewis is one company offering "De-escalation" training, with the WRC saying stores need more support from police. In John Lewis, one of the UK's biggest retailers, staff have been given de-escalation training, which aims to help predict when a situation may become violent. Head of security Nicki Juniper said John Lewis was "Investing heavily in training" for security and shop staff.
