BT boss faces long road to rebuild investor trust
The share price has not recovered, closing up only slightly on Friday at 305p. The fraud involved various methods of hiding and minimising operating costs at BT Italia. Mr Patterson, who has visited the BT Italia offices in Milan twice since taking over as chief executive three years ago, admits that the telecoms company faces a long road to rebuild investor faith. Mobile division EE, which BT bought last year, added 276,000 contract users. The result could include a sale or a merger, Mr Patterson says, adding that he "Is not religious" about needing to keep all parts of BT. But he notes that disposing of global services would leave BT a domestically-focused UK company. BT has exclusive rights to show the games in the UK but faces stiff competition from Sky, which could seek to take advantage of BT's current woes.
