William Hill poised to promote Bowcock to chief

William Hill is set to promote Philip Bowcock to chief executive, ending a fractious nine month search during which the UK bookmaker has been rebuffed by several external candidates. Mr Bowcock, the finance chief, has been acting as interim chief executive since James Henderson was removed in July in response to the board's dissatisfaction with the company's stalling online growth. These people cited Mr Bowcock's inexperience in the gambling industry - he joined William Hill in November 2015 having been chief financial officer at Cineworld. Parvus said the appointment of a chief executive was a matter for William Hill's board. Mr French said the ideal candidate for William Hill would have online gambling experience but added that "a lot of the entrepreneurs who were founders of the internet gaming companies have done well and cashed out. As the industry matures, these companies need a different skill set."
