Fire at Asos warehouse damages over £6m worth of stock

A fire in Asos's new warehouse near Berlin could have damaged £6.25m worth of clothes, the online retailer said. The fire broke out at 3am today and was contained to one of the distribution centre's four chambers. Two million items worth a total of £25m were in that chamber and Asos said its "Initial estimate" was that a quarter of that "Could be compromised by fire and water damage" for which it is "Fully insured". The fire did not affect the building's automation, technology or structure. Staff were evacuated when the fire broke out, and no-one was injured.
