Micro Focus faces biggest challenge as mammoth HPE deal closes
The executive chairman of the UK's soon-to-be largest technology company, Micro Focus, has bought software assets with such zeal over the past decade that one top-10 shareholder describes him as "More a private equity type than a businessman". After the HPE sale is finally completed on Friday, almost a year after it was first announced, Micro Focus will become the UK's largest technology company by market capitalisation, and will be generating double the revenues it had before the deal. Micro Focus employs around 4,500 staff, but this will more than quadruple when the acquisition adds some 14,000 HPE employees to headcount. According to analysts, a recent slowdown at HPE will make it difficult for Mr Hsu to justify a growth-driven model, when Micro Focus is known for emphasising the bottom line. Micro Focus will also have to allay concerns over the Autonomy assets it will acquire as part of the deal.
