BT Group: party line

The telecoms group needs to make more from sports content. It needs all the cash flow it can get to expand its fibre broadband network and pay dividends. Regulator Ofcom is pushing BT to connect more homes and businesses to ultrafast optical fibre. Another auction of English Premier League media rights looms in February, and it is haggling with scheme trustees over how to close a statutory pension deficit of nearly £10bn. The cost of taking fibre to a premise is roughly £600, thinks New Street Research. Already agreed deficit reduction payments may not rise much.
