HSBC reveals big gender pay gap
HSBC has reported a 29% median gender pay gap for its main UK banking operations. The company also reported a 60% gap on the mean measure for hourly pay for 2018. HSBC has a median gap of 57% for bonus payments between its male and female employees. Elaine Arden, group head of human resources, said: "If we identify any pay differences between men and women in similar roles, which cannot be explained by reasons such as performance/behaviour rating or experience, we make appropriate adjustments." All firms with more than 250 staff must report their gender pay gap to the government by 4 April.
