Spanish court rejects Swiss extradition request concerning former HSBC IT worker

A Spanish court has rejected an extradition request from Switzerland for Hervé Falciani, a former HSBC IT specialist who leaked data about thousands of wealthy customers and caused a scandal at the bank. The high court said that the Spanish criminal code did not include any charge similar to the crime of "Aggravated financial espionage", for which the Swiss justice system had sentenced Falciani to a five-year prison sentence in 2015. Spain's high court released him from custody but ordered him to remain in the country while the extradition request was considered. The Swiss courts are considering the extradition request. This is not the first time an extradition request for Falciani has been turned down by Spain.
