French Connection confirms it is exploring sale

French Connection, the fashion brand whose edgy "Fcuk" moniker became ubiquitous on Britain's high streets in the early noughties, has confirmed it is reviewing strategic options including a sale of the company. The retailer's two major shareholders are companies controlled by Stephen Marks, its founder, and Sports Direct, the sportswear chain controlled by billionaire Mike Ashley. Sports Direct owns 27 per cent, enough to prevent the company being compulsorily delisted. French Connection is one of its controversial "Strategic investments", which also include a 29 per cent stake in department store group Debenhams and a similar-sized holding in catalogue retailer Findel.
