Royal Mail: parcel drop

Royal Mail is that unfortunate corporate animal: an argument for creationism rather than evolution. As a result, the company has shredded its cost-saving target for this fiscal year from £230m to £100m. The company is sensibly focusing more on parcel delivery, through its Parcelforce service, to capture the surge in ecommerce. Even junk mail volumes are expected to fall up to 6 per cent this year, partly as a result of curbs under new EU data protection rules. It is good news that the company expects UK parcel volumes to grow at 6 per cent in the first half. The one consolation: however much Royal Mail is struggling, others are struggling more.
