Royal Mail appoints Keith Williams chairman

Former British Airways chief Keith Williams has been appointed the next chairman of Royal Mail, the group announced on Friday. Mr Williams - currently deputy chairman of the UK postal group and chair of its audit and risk committee - will take over the role from Les Owen from May 22. Mr Williams spent 18 years at British Airways, including five as chief financial officer, three as chief executive and two as executive chairman of the airline. Orna Ni-Chionna, senior independent director of Royal Mail, who led the recruitment process, said: "Our external search has confirmed that Keith Williams is the right person to chair the Royal Mail Group through a significant period of change. The company will benefit from his strong leadership skills, and his industrial relations, operational and strategic expertise." He will step down as a non-executive director of Aviva in May.
