William Hill appoints digitally focused chief amid overhaul

William Hill has appointed a more digitally focused chief executive as the UK bookmaker overhauls its business to move away from a traditional store-based model, following plans to close hundreds of its betting shops. The UK betting group promoted its chief digital officer Ulrik Bengtsson to chief executive designate and a director, it said on Thursday. The change at the top is part of its succession planning and is "Consistent with the group's strategy of becoming a digitally led and internationally diverse gambling company", the group said. Mr Bengtsson, who joined the group in April last year, was previously chief executive of Betsson, a gaming group. "Having overseen the group's digital operations for 18 months," said Mr Devlin, Mr Bengtsson "Knows the business well and is ideally suited to lead our next phase of growth".
