Opening Quote: ‘Remodelling’ at William Hill boosts profits guidance
Betting shop William Hill's profits are going to be better than expected. Last year adjusted operating profits were £234m, which was itself a 15 per cent fall from the year before. On Monday the group said that having "Executed the remodelling strategy" in its retail business, sporting results helped boost the unit's operating profits. The early-stage US business, one of William Hill's big hopes for growth, will break even rather than make a loss of up to $20m. Ulrik Bengtsson, originally brought in to help William Hill with its digital strategy, has been chief executive since the end of September. Oncology drugs have taken centre stage at the group in recent years, however.
