Ted Baker turns to Next veteran John Barton
Ted Baker has appointed former Next chairman John Barton as chairman as the coronavirus pandemic piles more pressure on a fashion brand already reeling from internal upheaval and a sharp reversal in trading. He spent more than a decade as chairman of high street fashion group Next before resigning in 2017. Sharon Baylay, the former BBC executive who handled the fallout from founder Ray Kelvin's departure, will continue as acting chairman until that point and remain on the board thereafter. Ted Baker, known for its strong designs and "Endurance" suits, has not provided any insight into trading since early December, when it issued its fourth profit warning in a year and announced the departures of Mr Page and David Bernstein, the previous chairman. Ted Baker shares fell as much as 8 per cent before, to sit down 1 per cent at lunchtime in London - they have fallen more than 90 per cent in the past year.
