Clarks cuts 900 jobs as it strengthens digital push

Shoemaker and retailer Clarks said it would cut more than 900 jobs worldwide as it tries to move to a more digital strategy, cut costs and complexity and slim its UK store estate. Beyond the UK, Clarks operates much more through other retail and franchise partners. The Clarks Collection, described by Mr Presca as "Normal shoes for normal people", would be complemented by design-led Clarks Originals and the Cloudsteppers collection that appeal to younger, more urban and more fashion-conscious consumers. "The trend towards athleisure has almost completely passed Clarks by." The outbreak of Covid-19 means Clarks will also need fresh funding.
