Asos sales jump as consumers snap up ‘lockdown products’

Asos sales rose sharply during the early months of the coronavirus pandemic, helped by strong growth in "Lockdown products" such as loungewear and skincare as well as fewer returns. The online retailer said revenues grew by 10 per cent to £1bn in the four months ending June, accelerating significantly following a sales decline of up to 25 per cent when lockdown measures were first introduced in March. The 20-year-old retailer's sales boom came after union GMB in March criticised work conditions at its UK warehouse in Barnsley, accusing Asos of "Playing Russian roulette with people's lives". Asos on Wednesday said it had been able to expand capacity at its warehouses during the UK's three-month lockdown after redesigning the workflow.
