Pakistan blocks Tinder and Grindr for 'immoral content'

A Pakistan Telecommunication Authority spokesman told BBC Urdu that as a consequence, the decision had been made to bring the management of these platforms into a "Moral and legal realm". Data from analytics firm Sensor Tower indicates Tinder has been downloaded more than 440,000 times in Pakistan within the last 12 months. Critics say Pakistan has sought to rein in free expression on the internet, blocking or ordering the removal of content deemed immoral as well as news critical of the government and military. In July, Pakistan issued a "Final warning" to TikTok over explicit content posted on the platform. Last week, the PTA also asked video-sharing platform YouTube to "Immediately block vulgar, indecent, immoral, nude and hate speech content for viewing in Pakistan".
