Live news updates: Amazon to acquire Roomba maker iRobot for $1.7bn

Amazon has agreed to buy iRobot, a company best known for its Roomba robot vacuum product that cleans floors automatically in homes, in an all-cash deal of $1.7bn. The ecommerce giant said it will pay iRobot shareholders $61 per share, a 22 per cent increase on its closing price on Thursday. Expectations are now that interest rates will stand above 3.5 per cent by the end of the year, versus expectations of 3.4 per cent prior to the report. Capita said revenue in the first half fell 6 per cent to £1.52bn. Adjusted revenue rose 1 per cent to £1.48bn. The adjusted figures strip out the costs associated with the company's disposal programme of non-core businesses. The yield on the benchmark 10-year gilt yield fell 0.02 percentage points to trade at 1.90 per cent in early trading as investors digest Thursday's news that the UK would enter a five-quarter recession at the end of the year. Asset under administration at the UK-listed company declined in value by 9 per cent to £123.8bn in the year to June 30, while new business flows were down 37 per cent compared to the previous year.
